I often get asked, “can you do this with diabetes?”
My response is “I don’t think I could do this without my diabetes.”
Diabetes has blessed me with gifts in life that I wouldn’t have had otherwise. Gifts such as mental toughness, determination, and the perseverance to not quit when life gets hard.
But these gifts weren’t handed to me when I was diagnosed. It’s been 14 years of pain, unpredictable moments, and countless learning lessons that have help form them.
Every day, diabetics are faced with decisions that are crucial to our wellbeing and one bad decision could lead us down a life-threatening emergency.
If we just simply “quit”, we not only jeopardize our health but we jeopardize our lives. We don’t have the option to “quit”.
This is why I’m pursuing my doctorate degree.
This is why I’m in a long-distance relationship.
This is why I continue to exercise when my blood sugar is dropping.
This is why I continue to study when my blood sugar is high.
This is why I started Sugar B & Me.
This is why I advocate for insulin price equality.
And this is why I brush myself off when diabetes has kicked me down (multiple times)!
Because I don’t quit when life gets hard.
And I will continue to fight on what I believe in because the pain, unpredictability and hard work fuels my soul?
Diabetes made me strong and I CAN do anything I put my mind to.
Now can you?
